Here are seven simple suggestions for getting the maximum benefit out of being a member of the OOPS Community -
1) Upload a picture into your profile.
An example of your performance art is fine – but I would suggest that you upload a picture of your smiling face because then you will run into more people on the street and have great conversations about your art form. This will really help people who do not know you to meet you.
2) Post an example of your work - written or spoken.
Music, singing or spoken word can be uploaded as an video file to the music box on your page. Pictures can be uploaded as a blog post or in the photo section. Writing samples can be uploaded into the blog. Stories, poetry welcome.
3) Insert a link to your website into the text box on your page or your into your blog posts.
This will help google to understand the relationship between you and OOPS website. Handy if your a professional storyteller wanted to be listed in the only place on the web that will list all of the storytellers in Ohio in one place..
4) Understand and relax about any examples of your work you post.
Once any work is posted online it may wonder far. So only post things your comfortable seeing on t-shirts from china. (yes it’s happened)
5) Start a group with in the NING.
Groups are not organized by interest - instead they are organized by
groups that already exist. For an example look at the Miami Valley Storytellers - a Dayton area group that now has it's own page ont eh OOPS website - in order for your group to be approved you must have two members of your group that are also members of the . Please start the group page on the website and I will approve it.
6) Write comments to other peoples examples of there work.
Put the C in Community by practicing generous and real communication with artists who have given us examples of there work. Please be polite or I will kick you out of the NING.
7) Invite other members of OOPS to join the Community – raising our profile and our number of connections.
This Community serves all members of OOPS - but many of us older storytellers may not feel very comfortable using this new technology - help a friend or fellow member of OOPS to sign on...
If you are used to working on NINGs there are few things that are different here...
1) Groups are not organized by interest - instead they are organized by groups that already exist. For an example look at the Miami Valley Storytellers - in order for your group to be approved you must have two members of your group that are also members of the . Please start the group and I will approve it.
2) Not everyone can join this online community - to join you must be a dues paying member of OOPS.
3) Blog posts are moderated before appearing on the front page. We reserve the right to remove all videos and pictures that do not reflect well on OOPS or the storytelling community without notice.
Help us spread the word of storytelling!
